a 1920s fashion innovation The little black dress, simply known as LBD or TBD (tiny black dress), is a classic fashion staple that completes every woman s wardrobe. It is an essential item that not only fashionistas should have. This is especially true at times when you feel like you do not have anything to wear. Your little black dress plus some stylish innovation becomes your saving grace. As a woman s best friend season after season, the LBD should be as simple, yet elegant, as possible. It should not necessarily be trendy; else, it may look outdated the next time you wear it. Clean lines cheap nike air max 90 and plain fabric are your best bet. This will render endless possibilities of creating different looks for different occasions. For instance, wear it with a blazer and you are set for daytime office work. Pair it with bold jewelry and you are ready for an evening gala. Mix it with today s accessories and you are in with current fad. Plus, it is so easy to accent with your favorite colors. "You should always own a black dress because no one ever remembers a black dress."The little black dress was a revolutionary 1920s fashion statement attributed to French fashion designer Gabrielle Bonheur Coco Chanel. It was in 1926 when Chanel introduced this brainchild of hers. From the time it was published in Vogue, it remains popular up to now. American Vogue later called it as Chanel s Ford because like Henry Ford s cars, particularly the Model T, this one color number was such a crazy hit. It was a kind of luxury, yet so affordable and accessible to any woman. Around the same era, New York based fashion designer Nettie Rosenstein also designed little black dresses. Some said Rosenstein might have been the original creator of the LBD. Though unsure, this Jewish American nevertheless popularized the elegant black hit in the United States. In the 1930s, Chanel found her great rival, to whom she was quoted saying, "that Italian artist who makes clothes". Known for her surreal approach, designer Elsa Schiaparelli also did her occasional take on the little black dress. Schiaparelli, however, did not remain as popular as Chanel because the former s designs were said to be easily copied. Fashion fades, only style remains the same. Coco Chanel girl should be two things: classy and fabulous. Coco Chanel Photo (left): Holes inside by jamesismtvone Economy wise, the little black dress became popular during the Great Depression and World War II. Its sleeveless design was indeed perfect during these periods of frugality. War ended and the Ford dress also became liberating as it took the color black out of a mournful state. It was a genius innovative take by Coco Chanel. Black, the color of grief, had become a picture of elegance. The Little Black Dress in Hollywood Hollywood movie world was (and still is) nike air max classic bw such an institution when it comes to fashion. Thanks to cinema, the little black dress became more widely known and admired by women who also loved its wearer. Audrey Hepburn s dresses in Sabrina were remarkable pieces that earned costume designer Edith Head another Oscar Award in 1954. Although Sabrina necklines are credited to Head, Hepburn s black ensemble was actually designed by Hubert de Givenchy. Hepburn made another lasting impression womens air max 90 in the 1961 film, Breakfast at Tiffany s. Her character is a picture of timeless elegance Holly Golightly in a black sleeveless dress, chunky pearls and oversized sunglasses, in front of Tiffany s. In Talkartoon, a skimpier LBD was originally worn by curvaceous cartoon Betty Boop until she was colorized. Then there was a rain of little blacks dresses on November 28, 1966. This legendary masked social event nike free 4.0 v3 was The Party of the Century as written by Deborah Davis. Elizabeth Hurley in Versace s safety pin dress during the London premiere of Hugh Grant Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994 There have been so many variations made for the little black dress some very minimal, some to the extreme. It could be the simplest unadorned black sheath on Betty Boop or Versace s safety pin dress on Elizabeth Hurley. Again, the possibilities are nike free run 6.0 endless. But however it is presented, designed and re invented, the classic staple will always be known as the Coco Chanel inspired little black dress, her Ford dress. A banned TED Talk about ancient nike free run 2014 uses of DMT and its potential to save the global consciousness We can also observe what air max 180 psychedelics are doing to the brain in real time, but there isn really anything we can do to measure what happens in the experience and how that relates to what people report. That not to say that there isn anything going on but I don think there substantial evidence to call this proof of anything in regards to a global consciousness. Sure, the hallucinations and the visions are convincing and I think it very bizarre that people experience similar events. Could there be something to it? I not going to doubt that something going on. But coming forward and saying nike free run 3 kids "we had these vivid visions on a powerful psychedelic drug, consciousness is all connected" without much else then. I don see why TED would be obligated to take them seriously as a scientific field or even inquiry. Maybe come back with more about why people are experiencing the same thing instead of just saying "there is global consciousness because we smoked this and saw this." A Beginner s Guide To Perfume Ingredients Our perfume today is produced in factories, but that was not always the case. Ancient perfumers worked with primarily natural ingredients, and some of those ancient ingredients are still common in perfume today (although sometimes in synthetic variation). Plants, roots, herbs, and flowers used in perfume were often used a lot in traditional healing, which is probably why up until the 18th century, perfume was considered as much an antiseptic and medicine as cosmetic. Frankincense and myrrh are two substances mentioned in the Bible and prized for being equivalent in value to gold. Frankincense is a resin from a gum tree that is produced in shapes called "tears" when the bark of the scraggly Boswallia tree is disturbed. These trees are rare and grow mainly in arid Middle Eastern lands and require hand harvesting, contributing to their exorbitant price. Myrrh, called a "bitter perfume" in the Christmas Carol "We Three Kings of Orient Are," is also used today. Myrrh is a gum resin produced from a bush like desert plant. In Arabic, the name Myrrh means "bitter" and this burnt orange looking substance does indeed have a strong, bitter aroma. Originally used as incense, today Yves St. Laurent s Opium and Rage of the Seven Sinful Scents by Gendarme list myrrh as an ingredient. Patchouli and sandalwood are both aromatic woods that come from Asia. Patchouli is grown in the East and West Indies while sandalwood comes from Nepal (about the farthest North it grows), India, Hawaii and Australia. While synthetics are often used today for these endangered woods, they have both been around for millennia as fragrance ingredients and have been prized for their healing properties. The best known patchouli scent on the market right now by far is Thierry Mugler s Angel. Mugler is a French perfumist and his unique Angel perfume is one of those love it or hate it kind of scents. Sandalwood is used in aromatherapy and also nike free 5.0 womens does double duty in the perfume world since it can serve as a fixative or anchor to other scents. Sandalwood has never really gone out of style. Today it s in lots of scents, including Dior Addict by Dior, Escada Magnetism, Hanae Mori Butterly, and the Cartier scent Delices de Cartier. Amber has got to be one of the most surprising and unusual things that is put into perfume. People who hear that a perfume contains amber typically think of the golden resin used to make jewelry. Actually, that amber is nike free outlet not used in perfume making. This amber is a short (and nicer sounding) term for ambergris. Ambergris could be picked up along the coastline and was harvested this way for hundreds of years. It was a gray substance that beachcombers could pick up and sell to factories that used it for a variety of products. Since it had a very distinctive aroma, it was used in perfumery. Ambergris did not smell wonderful by itself, but it blended well with other ingredients and became a staple in perfume making even before people knew what it was. Even womens nike free 3.0 v5 today, we don t really know what ambergris is, and perhaps we don t want to know. Sometime in the 19th century, it was known that this mysterious gray substance, which unpredictably appeared on the beaches of North America and other places, was associated with sperm whales. Today, it is thought that ambergris is a substance that sperm whales regurgitate after dining on their favorite meal of squid. Be that as it may, amber in perfume today is synthetic stuff, made to mimic the black nike air max scent of the original ambergris. Amber is found in Dolce and Gabbana s Light Blue, Vera Wang Princess, and Stella by Stella McCartney, to name a few. As much as perfume relies on ancient ingredients, including plants (lavender), spices (cinnamon, cloves), flowers (roses, gardenias, honeysuckle, lilies) and fruits (orange, lemon, peach), it also relies on new ingredients. The biggest "new thing" in perfume is the fact that today we live in a global village. Flowers indigenous to nike air max for women exotic lands can be easily obtained and put into perfume. We can now take advantage of Eastern spices, South Pacific flowers, North American musk, and Indian woods. Of course, much of this happens at the lab level, meaning in the form of synthetics. This helps preserve natural resources and makes perfume quality more uniform. Another interesting new wrinkle in the perfume world occurred in the 1920s with the advent of a chemical substance called aldehyde. Aldehyde is a synthetic odor molecule but unlike other synthetics, this wasn t a fake anything. Aldehyde was artificial and not meant to mimic anything natural. It has a distinctive "sparkly" quality to it and is often mixed with florals. Probably the best known aldehyde scent in the world is the perennial favorite, Chanel No. 5. The creator of Chanel No. 5, Ernst Breaux, also created Evening in Paris, a much more difficult scent to find, but another one that uses sparkling aldehyde notes. Today, we ve added to our roster of synthetics plus we ve blended more and more exotic ingredients together. Technology has also allowed us to capture unusual scents in perfume you can find perfumes today listing "ozone" as an element or "chocolate."

A Biography of the Legendary Perfumer You may not recognize his name or face, but he s probably been in your nike free trail bedroom. Legendary perfumer Jacques Polge, the "nose" of Chanel, has created some of the most seductive and alluring fragrances on the market. Learn about how he got started, and his relationship with the Chanel brand. A Nose Is Born Jacques Polge was born in 1943, near Avignon in the Provence region of the South of France. He summered with air max 2014 his family in Grasse known as the French capital of perfume where he developed an interest in the traditional art of perfumery. Had he lived in Paris or the north of France, Polge is quoted as saying, he is unlikely to have become a nose. "Being in Grasse, I became aware that there was such a profession as a perfumer." It wasn t merely the smells or the creative element which attracted the young Polge. Perfume making had a romantic appeal, too. "I liked the idea, the poetic idea that fragrance is a kind of language. It doesn t use words. It doesn t use images. It s invisible. During this nike id air max 1 time, he taught himself to memorize and recognize thousands of fragrance constituents. After graduation, the young perfumer went to work for Roure (now Givaudan). He also collaborated with Michel Hy to produce Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Perfume for Women, in 197.0 Polge Joins Chanel In 1978, Polge accepted the position of house perfumer at Chanel, one of the world s most prestigious, successful and luxurious fashion brands, becoming only the third ever nose in Chanel s 85 year history as perfume makers. He assumed the mantle from Henri Robert, creator of No. 19, the last Chanel perfume in Coco Chanel s lifetime and nike free run 5.0 black Polge s personal favourite. When Polge joined Chanel, the fashion house was one of only a few remaining to have its own in house nose. (Today, it s the only house which can boast that every single one of its fragrances was made in its own laboratory by its own nose.) Polge was the first nose operating entirely by himself, with no input from Coco Chanel, who had died in 1971. However, he was keenly aware of her ongoing presence, and the great responsibility of ensuring that her fragrances continued to be made exactly as she had wanted them. Polge s first women s perfume for the house of Chanel was an aromatic homage to the great lady herself. Coco. Launched in 1984, the sensual fragrance was inspired directly by Chanel and her extravagantly decorated Parisian home, located above the shop on the rue Cambon. It was a runaway best seller upon release, and continues to enjoy a strong following. The Legend Lives On Today, Polge is not only in charge of creating new fragrances for Chanel his latest are Chanel No. 19 Poudre and Jersey (autumn 2011) but he is the guarantor of quality for all Chanel perfumes. A Birthday Noder Party Meet in Swindon event Alright, I can keep that style nike free men up for about half a sentence. It seems that noders are unable to follow simple instructions! Yes, folks, there IS a number 11 bus, and getting on a randomly chosen other bus which seems to be heading in the right direction is not a good substitute! We had people ending up in different streets, different towns, different dimensions. "You re in the right room, don t worry! But you re in an alternate universe which doesn t have any people in it. No, move kata a few feet!" TheLady has a superb bookshelf and an equally superb comic bookshelf. TheLady also cooks! Prepares food. Perhaps the prevalence of recipe nodes should have given it away, but noders cook. Dimview exists. She is a real, corporeal individual, and there is photographical evidence! Of kohlcass, who phoned up during the nodermeet to wish Wntrmute a happy birthday and ended up talking to everybody including myself, I have only heard a voice, briefly, but it s surely only a matter of time. "I don t recognise nike air max 90 sale you. Let my check my list of people who are expected to be here. Are you. BaronWR? Hah! Success!" DTal seems like a nice young man. We ll have to work on that. Andrew_Aguecheek and I crossed the road to the Co Op dashed handy to buy booze. "Right, how are we paying for half of this each?" "You cut, I ll choose." ("Would you like to sponsor a dog?" is the strangest thing either of us has ever been asked at a checkout.) Apple: just as evil as Microsoft? Consensus was yes. Don t get TheLady started. My theory? Apple can make stylish looking computers and music machines. Microsoft are not at liberty to create sleek, stylish looking, white and chrome software, so they lose. The Debutante arrived, bringing party games. Yeah, seriously. We passed parcels. BaronWR s forfeit was to propose marriage to the noder opposite. rootbeer277 ("PROFESSOR SCIENCE") s forfeit, shortly afterwards, was NOT to accept BaronWR s proposal, alas. Instead, nike free runs 5.0 he was instructed to remove three items of clothing. And complied. Yeah, really. We ve seen his feet, ladies. We were divided into groups for the quiz round. "Right, for this game, you will be given the title of a node on Everything2 and you will have to tell me which noder wrote it!" "Ah ha!" I thought. "Since I am a regular user of E2, I have the advantage! Oh, wait." There was the Never Mind The Buzzcocks "Hum the song and have your teammate guess it" round, which devolved into "Get one point for recognising any of the songs in the pile of cards" but was hilarious. There was also the totally awesome Have I Got News For You "Headlines with deleted words" round, which included none, some or all (actually all) from the meet s guest publication, the November 2007 issue of Sporting Shooter magazine. It should actually have been "Harriers At Risk From Eagle Owls" There was also "Fowling By ". The actual answer was "Moonlight" but by this point we were giving points to the funniest answer, so I believe it was Wntrmute who won with "Chanel". Last Year s Rabbi did not make an appearance, alas. If you are a Facebook friend of any of the attendees then you will be able to view Dimview s photo gallery of this meet here. la petite mort s gallery is here, including several pics of Wntrmute with his honeyz. At this nodermeet, to my surprise, we actually spent a fair amount of time discussing Everything2 itself. No, we did not come to any firm conclusions. At least in the catbox, everything everybody says is heard by everybody else who reads. My goodness, it s almost like everybody has a differing opinion! When we ran out of beer I think we (or at least I) moved on to drinking vodka and blackcurrant squash, which was enough to start me thinking seriously about air max black sleep. I felt no shame about curling up on the floor while the party continued, since archiewood was already asleep under the kitchen table, and also, it was, you know, two thirty in the morning by this point. I thought of it as starting a trend. When The Debutante is asleep on a sofa under a thick heavy blanket which completely covers her, it looks like there s nobody there. The cold and regret filled light of day dawned, as it does nike free 3.0 v5 after November nodermeets. My patented hangover cure: fruit! Also there were delicious eggs. Thank you for letting us eat all your food and sleep on your floor, TheLady! A Birthday Noder Party Meet in Swindon Rambling back story and marketing pitch: Well, there not that much to ramble about to be honest. I been badgering Wntrmute to come and see me for a while now, and the only weekend for a while that suits us both turned out to coincide with his birthday. So he was all like "bake me a cake", nike free run white and I was all "suah, shall we have a par tay?", and he was like "yeah, why not?", so, um, yeah. Obviously we can have a party without guests, so it was decided that a proper node should be put together in the proper way to let y know that you way invited to come along and help us eat the cake! And drink the booze! And scare the neighbours! I guessing one or two people will be showing up on Friday the 2nd, which is great; that evening will probably run along the lines of quiet chat, moderate drinking and a simple home cooked meal. Saturday will see more people arriving, tidying up, shopping for necessaries, cake baking, running around like headless chickens, and possibly me throwing everyone out of the place in the afternoon while I have a nervous breakdown and they go and enjoy themselves in the pub, the bastards. Where was I? Oh yeah. So anyway, Saturday night is gonna be all like Party Night, and if you need that explained to you then you lead a very sheltered life! I lay on some snack food, there will be cake, and booze, and music, and just possibly party games if DEB organizes them, and maybe even some debauchery. I don know, I working on that last one. Then there will be sleep in a very come as you are sort of way, as space will be limited. I strongly recommend arriving with at least a sleeping bag to your names. Once everyone gets bored with sleeping, there will be breakfast cooked or purchased, and then we can just mooch about nike free 5 0 and read the Sunday papers until it time for people to catch trains home or whatnot. Another option is to book a table for brunch in this quite upmarket trendy place across the way and treat our hangovers to some table service and pampering. We see. I so totally want to see more of you guys but unless you can really tug on my heartsrings and get me to let you sleep in the wardrobe, I think you might be better advised booking into a B I be happy to help find something affordable and nice.

A Blogger at Chanel Part Deux So I left off as we entered 31 rue Cambon where we were guided up the famous mirrored staircase to the fitting rooms where haute couture clients are treated to plush cream, black and white surroundings which was redecorated by Karl Lagerfeld a few years ago. We wondered who was getting their bi annual fix of Chanel couture and judging from the rising figures of haute couture clients, it seems that the issue of couture is dying doesn t exist at the House of Chanel. We peeked into the wardrobes where we could see Chanel s AW07 couture pieces. It actually seemed rather like a personal closet where somebody might pull out a 20,000 dress and say Oh what? This old thing? . Perhaps that is how some people would treat their couture wardrobe. I can t say that I d personally be comfortable with being clothed in a big bulk of wealth but to try on one piece and to cherish that one piece would be something of an enlightening experience indeed. So that was the daydreaming me talking whilst I was meandering around the fitting rooms, imagining and self deluding. I did look down at my AA leggings and Topshop skirt and feel a little belittled. Onwards and upwards though I d imagine even if I did have the money to wear Chanel couture, that I d still be clashing it with some charity shop finds. We then further ascended into the highly anticpated portion of the trip; a guided tour around Coco Chanel s apartments. Actually, the video footage I have put together is no where near as comprehensive or informative as the Coco Mademoiselle website where you get a virtual tour of the apartments along with those museum guide book esque tidbits that are fascinating when compiling a picture of Coco as a person and what she was like. I did however really want to back my video with an Igor Stravinsky soundtrack because that was literally what was going through my head as I was walking through the apartment. Igor Stravinsky was a close friend of Coco s and it was rumoured that they had a very brief affair. I had a bitch of a time playing Stravinsky on the piano but it felt good to take it in whilst wandering through an apartment where she might have had Stravinsky s records on a gramophone. The amount of symbolism, references and superstitious traits in the apartment are numerous and my head was reeling with the amount of information I was saturated with. The chandelier is not just a chandelier; the hidden number 5 s, number 2 s, the double CC s in the metalwork of the chandelier. Lions adorning the room because Chanel was a Leo. The quilted beige sofa, referencing the 2.55 bags. The black lacquer tables that Chanel requested is now seen in the black shiny packaging of Chanel s make up. Most fascinating of all, a precious miniature bird cage on the table was the inspiration for the 1992 Coco perfume ad where Vanessa Paradis is in a bird cage. As I was being fed all of this information, despite the books I had read, the stories I had heard, I finally got some sort of a real grasp of who Coco Chanel was and again, I ll say something spooky and hokey but I really did feel her presence there in that apartment. It may be because the apartment is so small but having it remain the way it is without any alterations does mean that it is absolutely saturated with Coco s spirit. We were then led to the mirrored staircase where on the floor above, Kaiser Karl and his team were busily working away on the SS08 collection to be shown in about two weeks time. Very odd to know that so much goes on in that one building. When one says House of Chanel , quite literally, it is a house. We were positioned on different steps of the staircase as to see the full effect of the mirrored staircase which was built from scratch by Coco Chanel when she moved into the 31 rue Cambon premises. The full effect being that if you sit at the top of the staircase, you can see what people are doing in all the differently angled mirrors which is exactly what Chanel did when shows were staged on that staircase to see the reactions of various fashion editors. (Check out mine and Adrian s simultaneous snap!) I won t repeat the sentiments I expressed yesterday in part une but the visit to Coco s apartments did affirm for me the mystique behind a fashion house steeped in history which is what makes them all the more intriguing in this day and age where they still staunchly survive. no, thrive! The reverance and respect that Chanel s staff have for the history of the house and Coco Chanel s persona is SO apparent. The little anecdotes that all the staff can rattle off about Chanel s life, the explanations behind the clothing and accessories they are wearing (had no idea that the double chained belts came from Chanel s origins of a Catholic orphanage, except she replaced the hanging crosses nike free run womens with a double CC) these facts and details resonate and are still ever so important. So I don t envision Karl Lagerfeld suddenly showing a collection that bears zero references to Chanel s past. I feel honoured that I got to peek into a house with that strong a conviction towards its history. So I left off as we entered 31 rue Cambon where we were guided up the famous mirrored staircase to the fitting rooms where haute couture clients are treated to plush cream, black and white surroundings which was redecorated by Karl Lagerfeld a few years ago. Most fascinating of all, a precious miniature bird cage on the table was the inspiration air max 90 essential for the 1992 Coco perfume ad where Vanessa Paradis is in a bird cage. We were positioned on different steps of the staircase as to see the full effect of the mirrored staircase which was built from scratch by Coco Chanel when she women nike air max moved into the 31 rue Cambon premises. The little anecdotes that all the staff can rattle off about Chanel s life, the explanations behind the clothing and accessories they are wearing (had no idea that the double chained belts came from Chanel s origins of a Catholic orphanage, except she replaced the hanging crosses with a double CC) these facts and details resonate and are still ever so important. So I don t envision nike free womens Karl Lagerfeld suddenly showing a collection that bears zero references to Chanel s past. I feel honoured that I got to peek into a house with that strong a conviction towards its history.
